The WUR-Wide Weed Working Group

The WUR Wide Weed Working group aims to bring together students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty working in weed ecology and weed science—united by a shared interest in plants that are often simply viewed as “problems.”

The working group covers a broad range of weed related topics, including weed biology and ecology, management strategies, seed predation, modeling, and the role of biodiversity in agroecosystems. We aim to host quarterly sessions where we provide a platform to share research, exchange ideas, opportunities and foster collaboration across different career stages and areas of expertise. Here participants present their work, discuss recent scientific findings, and critically engage with emerging concepts and frameworks. The sessions also include guest lectures from external experts and field trips, where weeds can be appreciated both in theory and in their natural (and sometimes inconvenient) habitats. By creating an open and interactive environment, the working group aims to contribute to more sustainable and integrated approaches to weed management.
